We
have been told that the magic never ends. I believe this is true. But the Magic does not stay the same. It
is funny the ideas that we baseball fans get into our minds. It is about
waiting for the magic to return.
We want to go back to the better days. The days when people thought of the Giants as “Murders’
Row.” The days when people like Duane Kuiper was thinking the Giants were not
to be beaten.” That was really a fun time to be a Giants fan.
We
were sure:
·
Things will be better if Brandon
Belt returns
·
Things will be better if Marco
Scutero returns
·
Things will be better
after the All Star break
·
Things will be better when Angel
Pagan returns
Belt has been back for a while
and is just now getting into a hitting rhythm. This is good news, only the team as a whole is not producing with any regularity.
Scutero is back. But a bad back is an insidious thing.
It can betray you at any time, and fear of pain can change your behavior. I am afraid to say that I will be
surprised if he returns to full force, even on a part time basis. I’m guessing his productivity will
improve, but his back will never be the same.
I
believe that Pagan will reappear
after the break, but who knows what will happen with that. I am hoping that he is the Great Orange
Hope, and will light a fire under the G-Men.
What
is wrong with those G-Men? They
have left Ryan Vogelsong in the
lurch with zero runs in four straight games. He has been doing really well with no support. Imagine what he could do if someone
scored some runs for him.
We
know these guys can score. Maybe
it is that they can hit only the less forceful pitchers. That would be so
sad. It is starting to seem like
the Big-Bad-Wolf-Pitchers scare them away. They have to understand they can hit any body.
Notes:
I
am not a big believer in the All Star Game.
If
the season were to be over today, I am thinking that the great post season
series would actually be Oakland vs. Detroit. Interesting that they are both teams in sad cities. Teams like those can really give a lot
to those cities.
