When the bases are loaded,
just call Madison Bumgarner! His
second grandslam of the year came on Sunday in the San Francisco Giants’ 8-4
win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The game was the 3rd time in Giants history they’ve
hit 2 grand slams in the same game (others: 4/26/1970 at Montreal & 9/19/98
vs. LAD) and the first time a pitcher/catcher combination have each hit a grand
slam in the same game. Buster Posey pounded his in the 5th inning and
MadBum’s followed in the 6th. He is the first pitcher to have to
slams in one season since 1966.
Yikes.
San Francisco won the
series against Arizona, 3-2, the last until after the All Star Break. Next stop for the G’s is Miami.
It
was the second game in a row that Hunter Pence failed to hit after a long
streak. Defensively, he made a
great throw for an out at third base (amazing!) and a brilliant catch.

Bruce Bochy announced that Matt Cain would drop to the 5th
spot in the pitching rotation, citing need for rest as the reason. The new
order will be Bumgarner, Tim Hudson, Tim
Lincecum, Ryan Vogelsong and Cain.
